Multiple Sclerosis: Etiology, Diagnosis, and New Treatment Strategies
This volume presents current concepts on the evaluation, treatment and future directions in multiple sclerosis. Special attention is devoted to the immunologic mechanisms involved in the autoimmune process and in developing treatment strategies based on these concepts. The genetic component of the disease is discussed, as well as the role of viruses, and immunosuppressive and symptomatic therapy for progressive disease. All current medications for treatment are discussed including recently approved medications, and medications in development. This volume provides insight into the future of multiple sclerosis by presenting future therapies including bone marrow transplant, combination therapy and the latest discoveries in immunology as they relate to multiple sclerosis.
